Responsible Use and Copyright
Last updated: October 2, 2026
1. Our approach
SocialDownload is a tool for keeping media you are entitled to keep. We do not host or publish any content, we have no catalog, and we do not help anyone get around the protections chosen by creators or platforms. You decide which links you submit, and you are responsible for what you download and what you do with it, as set out in our Terms of Service.
2. Good uses
- Backing up videos, audio and posts you created yourself.
- Keeping content whose author or rights holder has authorized it, or content published under a license that allows copies (for example some Creative Commons licenses), while respecting its conditions.
- Keeping a copy for your strictly private use where the private copying exception of your country applies. In France, this exception only covers copies made from a lawful source and reserved for the private use of the person who makes them (Article L122-5 of the French Intellectual Property Code).
- Working with transcripts for study, accessibility, short quotations or research, within the limits set by law.
3. What is not allowed
- Redistributing, uploading again, publishing or selling content without the rights holder's authorization.
- Circumventing, or attempting to circumvent, DRM or any other technical protection measure. The Service does not process protected streams, and circumventing an effective technical measure is an offense under French law (Article L335-3-1 of the French Intellectual Property Code).
- Downloading private content of other people, such as content from private accounts, stories or posts shared with a restricted audience, or private messages, without their consent.
- Downloading content available only through a subscription or a purchase in order to share it with people who have not paid for it.
- Using content in a way that infringes someone's privacy, image rights or reputation, or to harass anyone.
- Bulk or automated downloading through the website, and any attempt to get around the free daily allowance.
4. Reporting content: notice and takedown
If you hold rights over content, or act on behalf of a rights holder, and believe that SocialDownload is being used to infringe them, send a notice to abuse@socialdownload.fr. To let us act quickly, please include:
- your name or the name of the organization you represent, your contact details and, if you act for someone else, your authority to do so;
- a description of the protected work or content concerned;
- the exact links (URLs) of the content on the platform concerned;
- the reasons why you consider the use unlawful, with the legal basis if possible;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized and that the information in your notice is accurate and complete (for a notice under the United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act, also a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the rights holder);
- your handwritten or electronic signature.
Because we do not host content, removing it from the platform where it is published is a matter for that platform. What we can do, and do, is prevent the reported links from being processed by SocialDownload.
What happens next
- We acknowledge receipt of your notice.
- We review it diligently and objectively. If it is complete and well founded, we block the reported links in the Service.
- Where an account is involved, we inform its holder, who can respond.
- We tell you what we decided.
Knowingly sending a false or abusive notice in order to have content blocked may engage your liability.
5. Contesting a decision
If you believe a link was blocked or your account was restricted by mistake, for example because you own the content or hold a license for it, reply to our message or write to abuse@socialdownload.fr with the details and any supporting evidence. We review the decision and tell you the outcome.
6. Repeat infringer policy
We keep a record of valid notices and confirmed abuse linked to each account. An account that is the subject of repeated valid notices, or that repeatedly breaks this policy, is suspended and, in appropriate circumstances, closed, under the conditions of section 15 of the Terms of Service. We may also refuse the free tier to devices or networks involved in repeated abuse.
7. Requests from authorities
We respond to requests from competent judicial and administrative authorities in accordance with the law.
