Udemy lecture downloader
Watching a course on a train, or taking notes from a lecture, is easier with a local copy. SocialDownload can save Udemy lectures from courses you are enrolled in, through the desktop app and your own browser session, together with their captions as a transcript.
Udemy requires a signed in session, and many courses are protected by DRM. Protected lectures cannot be downloaded at all, and SocialDownload does not circumvent this protection. For other lectures of courses you are enrolled in, use the desktop app with your own browser session.
What you can download
- Video lectures of courses you are enrolled in, in the desktop app
- Free preview lectures
- Lectures of free courses you have joined
- Captions as a transcript, when the lecture has them
Formats and quality
- Video: MP4 in the qualities Udemy streams for the lecture.
- Transcript: from the lecture captions, as text, text with timestamps, SRT, VTT, DOCX or PDF.
- Protected lectures: lectures encrypted with DRM cannot be downloaded at all.
How to download in three steps
- 01
Copy the lecture link
Open the lecture in your browser while signed in to Udemy and copy the address. It contains /course/ and /lecture/.
- 02
Paste it in the desktop app
Paste it in the SocialDownload desktop app, which uses your browser session to reach the course. The website only reaches free previews.
- 03
Choose and download
Tick Video, and Transcript if you want the captions, then download.
Good to know
- Many Udemy courses are protected by DRM. Those lectures cannot be downloaded, and SocialDownload never tries to bypass this protection.
- If you only need to watch offline, the Udemy mobile app has its own download feature for enrolled courses.
- A transcript in DOCX or PDF makes a good base for your notes.
- Course videos are the instructor's work: keep them for your own learning and do not share them.
